Bill Quay Farm is an innovative community leisure project on the southern bank of the river Tyne. Established in 1985, this dynamic project has transformed a reclaimed forty-acre site into a valued green retreat with stunning panoramic views and provides visitors with the opportunity to experience farm life.
The farm keeps a fine selection of rare breed livestock, including Longhorn Cattle, Hebridean and Jacob Sheep, Tamworth & Saddleback Pigs, Bagot Goats and Scots Grey Hens. The creation and management of woodlands, hedgerows, wetlands and pastures supports a diverse medley of flora and fauna. The wildlife area and vegetable garden received a Green Pennant Award in 2007.
In addition to being a popular visitor destination, the farm also affords accredited educational opportunities and training facilites, children's activities and a programme of public events. The farm is a member of the Access to Farms scheme offering school visits with CEVAS accredited staff.
The Green Fleece Cafe offers Fairtrade refreshments in a gallery-style setting with information on environmental issues, including energy saving and renewable technology, freedom food and healthy eating.
