The RBST welcome the announcement by the Secretary of State, Hilary Benn that the UK Government is to issue a tender for Bluetongue vaccine. We understand that a number of manufacturers are on the threshold of producing a suitable product to combat the current outbreak and we urge that accurate assessments are made of the dosages required to provide effective protection for British livestock.
Prior to Defra’s announcement today it had been suggested that the EU Commission might pay for the vaccines themselves and for 50% of the practical costs of administration during the first year.
RBST would be encouraged to hear confirmation of this arrangement.
