Poultry Keeping Courses - Members Views Sought

With an increasing number of members keeping or thinking about keeping poultry, RBST is keen to look at ways of offering some practical support in the form of training.

The team is currently looking at a number of options with a view to introducing a pilot programme of courses in 2010 which members would be offered at a subsidised cost. Conservation officer Claire Barber explains: “We want to put together a programme that best meets members’ needs and interests so at this stage we would like feedback to help us assess the types of course we should offer. The important thing is that we ensure maximum value by developing a training programme that offers what our members really want.”

For those members whose interests lie in breeding for meat consumption at home, or in learning emergency slaughter for welfare reasons, RBST is also considering offering courses on humane slaughter. Claire says: “We have two options. We could offer a course which covers the theory or we could organise a practical in-depth course designed to develop a level of competence for members who wish to become a licensed poultry slaughter person. Knowing what level of take up there is likely to be will help us to determine the most appropriate choice.”

To help the team develop a programme of poultry training programmes, we would like your feedback. You can either email any comments you have to enquiries@rbst.org.uk, putting ‘poultry courses’ in the subject line, or complete the form below.
