Semi Feral Welsh Mountain Pony (Section A)

The Welsh Pony and Cob Stud Book includes four Sections (A, B, C, and D) ranging in size from under 12 hh to more than 15 hh, but the Welsh Mountain pony (Section A) is the foundation for the other Sections, and is recognised by the RBST. Bred in the rough terrain of the mountains and wild regions of Wales for many generations, they have developed hardiness, a sound constitution, and intelligence.
The head of the Mountain Pony is small, with neat pointed ears, big bold eyes, a wide forehead, and a concave profile. The jaw is clean cut, tapering to a small muzzle. The body is deep, and the slender legs have dense bone.
Action is powerful, free and straight from the shoulder. Combined with the breed's temperament and intelligence, it makes the Welsh Mountain Pony very suitable either in harness or as a riding pony.
