The rare and native breeds in The Park were Southdown and Oxford Down sheep, local to the area, both proved a huge hit with visitors and pedestrians who were very surprised with the sight of sheep in the centre of London. Visitors also had the opportunity to learn more about the wool-making process as The Woolly Roadshow made The Green Park a stop in their Wool Tour last week. The Woolly Roadshow, run by David and Karen Griffiths, began the tour outside the World Heritage Site of Caernarfon Castle in Wales, and finished in Bakewell at the Bakewell Wool Gathering. David Griffiths of The Woolly Roadshow said ‘This year we decided to make a stand for British farmers and British wool by taking our Woolly Roadshow on a tour of the UK. We have enjoyed great discussions here and at each location which is fantastic’. One passer-by commented ‘This has made my day!’, and many commented that it was ‘wonderful’ the great properties and uses of British wool were being promoted.
