50th Anniversary About our 50th year Celebrating 50 years of RBST This year RBST celebrates its 50th anniversary. Much has happened over the past 50 years so there is much to celebrate, and a number of events are planned to mark this anniversary year, following the theme of “Native Breeds for Modern Needs” – our new strapline. The events planned will focus on promoting the UK’s native breeds and their produce, as well as RBST’s ongoing conservation work. A key project for the year will be the creation and launch of a report on the economics of keeping native breeds which will promote their commercial attributes. CEO Christopher Price explains: “The aim of our work in this anniversary year is to elevate RBST’s profile and reach out to a series of influential decision makers in the political and farming world, whilst securing new members to take us forward into the next 50 years.” A series of regional events, aimed at our key stakeholders are planned, leading up to a seminar to be held in London to launch the report on commerciality. There will be a guest speaker at each event plus a panel discussion of breeds of the area with contributions from relevant breed societies. Native breed produce in the form of meat and wool will be showcased and guests will be able to take part in a tasting of local breed meat. Christopher Price: “The plan is to invite primarily local stakeholders, people involved in sustainable farming and the wider food sector, representative organisations and local influencers and decision makers. We also look forward to welcoming members from the regions as well as our sponsors and, hopefully, potential sponsors.” RBST Scotland is holding its own series of events, and further celebrations are planned for Northern Ireland and Wales.
