As breeders and keepers  we require your help with an important project collecting data on the breeding habits of rare and native breeds, of sheep and goats.

The aim of the project is to gather information which is often requested by smallholders and farmers who are either new to native breeds, or established keepers looking into new breeds. This includes lambing percentages, mothering ability, the age of the mother, the number of lambs and hardiness.

A short, straightforward survey setting out the information required is available here.

This information is readily available for continental breeds. We need it to be there for native breeds too, not least to enable informed comparisons to be made.

We would like your help and participation in gathering as much data as possible. The more people participate, the more credible the results will be.  We would therefore be immensely grateful if you could encourage as many of your members as possible to assist us.

Please upload completed survey forms here by June 30th 2022.

If you already have some of this data from previous years and you are willing to share it, we would be extremely grateful.

Frequently Asked Questions

Columns asking for a rating between 1-5 are defined as 1 being the worst possible rating and 5 being the best possible rating. E.g
If a ewe for example lambs a vigorous healthy lamb and has good mothering ability but a poor milk yield then her score would likely be along the lines of 5, 5, 2 or 5,4,1.

The spreadsheet may be used for data for any year, if you would like to submit separate sheets for separate years, breeds or species the upload link will accept any titled file and you may change the file name with no issues.
If you wish to add a year column this is also not a problem.

If you would like to upload your own spread sheet which you already have rather than use the one provided the upload link will allow for this.
